See Breeding
Mission section to read about our prize winning Fleeces. In order to keep
chaff out of our fleeces our flock is coated from September until shearing in
March or April. Unskirted fleeces are routinely a minimum of 12 pounds for a hogget
and frequently range up to 17 pounds. After skirting the fleeces and trimming
down to 6" in staple length they are sent one by one to Starcroft Fiber Mill in
Monroe, Maine. Jani Estell and her helpers carefully wash each fleece in Eco Scour
- a very gentle cleanser. Each fleece is individually custom spun. This enables
us to offer several different natural shades of colored yarn ranging from white
to silver to gray to jet black and an occasional moorit (tan). The custom spinning
also means we know the sheep the yarn came from. There is an added pleasure to
knowing that the garment is from Dakota (the farm mascot), Zorro (THE ram), Daphne
(the back rub queen) etc. The soft hand of this custom spun prize winning fleece
is exceptional. Yarns vary from medium worstered to bulk weights. |

Skins: We do offer
a limited number of white and occasionally black sheep skins. These are custom
tanned by Bucks County Fur in Pennsylvania. They are washable. They come from
6 month old lambs so the fleece is absolutely superb. The fleece length is generally
around 4". The size of the pelts is at least 30" X 40". Price: $150 plus S&H. |
